The hilt of this early example
reflects solid nickel, heavy fittings. The reverse ferrule is stamped
with the marking, "Fü 14". This same stamping appears on the throat
of the scabbard. The grip plates are fine stag examples. They have
rich brown grains in the surfaces and golden edges. These excellent
plates are retained with screw and spanner hardware. The scabbard
shell is straight throughout. The scabbard fittings are in perfect
condition. The stamped designs remain crisp to include the swirls
at the upper fitting and the shovel- over-wheat shafts with superimposed
swastika at the lower. The blade motto etch is deeply executed,
having background blackening remaining at about 95%. The reverse
ricasso is etched with the RAD triangle, "Ges. Gesch" and the Eickhorn
double oval trademark used by this firm from 1933-35. The circles
trap the firm name and location, "Carl Eickhorn, Solingen". Inside
is the serrated tail squirrel over the initial's "C.E.". Fine collectible
example.
