This model of field cap was
worn by men serving in the RAD (Reichsarbeitsdienst) at the front
lines. These caps are pretty scarce; this one is made from a fine
quality, fairly dark olive brown wool. Nor does this cap have the
earlier style of thick roll (piping?) of dark brown material along
the edge of the forehead section (i.e., temple to temple) - which
was discontinued over time. The scalloped skirts narrow at the front
into two arms (as on military style caps), with the ends sewn together
(rather than overlapped). There are two hand-made metal buttons
(cut from brass) applied to the center of the skirt, which are strictly
for show. The cap has a very nice machine-woven RAD emblem applied
to the front. The visor is fairly thin, without any extra thickening
to the edge. The interior includes a very nicely aged - and still
completely pliable - full circumference sweatband in dark reddish
brown leather, which is approx. a size 55. There is some light soiling,
and a spot, or two, but overall the condition is excellent. A unique
private purchase variation of an RAD M43 pattern field cap.
